SEO for doctors and healthcare
I’m Aiswariya Kolora, CEO of Techpullers. On this page I want to explain the SEO work we actually do for doctors and clinics every month.
I’ll use one of our current clients to explain it, Ravi’s Dental Care & Implant Centre in Vizag. Dr Ravi works consistently with us. And you can go through his website and check everything I say here yourself.
What SEO for doctors involves, every month
Ravi’s Dental Care & Implant Centre is in MVP Colony, Visakhapatnam. It is led by Dr. Konagala Ravi Kumar. He is an MDS in Endodontics and a Professor at GITAM Dental College.
Every month we do on-page work on the site. The monthly work also includes blogs. We provide the keywords. He gives the input and the pictures. Then we write it together and publish.
We give the social media content calendar, and we do the GMB posts. We also do backlinks every month. That means the new directories, and Quora, Reddit and other forums. When we post on a forum for a clinic, we say who we are. Otherwise the post gets removed.
He is already listed on Practo, Justdial and Sulekha.
The before and after pictures are actually taken properly by the doctor himself, and he gives them to us. We added the images properly on the pages. Dr Ravi coordinates well.
How a Vizag dental clinic got into Google’s AI answers
People use a lot of ChatGPT nowadays to chat and find out which is the best dental clinic or which is the best doctor nearby, in their locality or maybe in the district. And to compare with the other doctors as well. The comparisons are happening on ChatGPT and AI Overviews itself.
Ravi’s is already there in the AI Overview for dental clinic in Vizag. This is what it showed:
The AI Overview for “dental clinic in vizag”
“Ravi’s Dental Care & Implant Centre. 5.0 (385). Dental clinic. Highlights: Managed by Dr. Konagala Ravi Kumar, a professor at GITAM Dental College. Houses 8 MDS specialists and uses state-of-the-art diagnostic technology like CBCT imaging.”
What Search Console shows
Now Search Console has got a special feature of showing the AI Overview searches as well, and the number of views that came from AI Overviews. It is a new update that came a month or two back. For Ravi’s, over the last three months:

How we get a clinic cited in AI answers
AI Overview is not fixed. It is a probabilistic response. It is based on consensus, freshness and authority. That is why we use fan-out queries.
This is how we do it:
We map out the branded entities, like the doctor, the clinic and the treatments.
We find out the visibility gap.
We build our own keyword list with seeds and modifiers. We vet those keywords. We check the business potential, the intent and the difficulty.
Then we check whether AI has fully satisfied that particular query, and find the AI mention opportunities.
We use the bottom line up front method. LLMs and humans, they read the beginning. So put the answer first and then the supporting paragraph under that. One idea per section.
Content freshness is important. All the pages have to be refreshed at least in the last 30 days. So we do that also. We refresh the sleeper pages.
Mentions. Tier one mentions are industry publications, review sites, listicles and comparison posts, and YouTube reviews. Tier two mentions are Reddit threads, community platforms, YouTube channels, podcasts and LinkedIn. All these are important.
Creating content that gets cited is what matters. Answer the question. Pick the right keyword, and make a thorough, well optimised page or video.
Besides this, the traditional SEO is important. On-page, off-page and technical SEO, everything is important to get your business shown on AI chatbots and Overviews.
How we research keywords for a doctor
I use Google Search Console to see the AI citations and the terms. Apart from that, there are keywords we find from People Also Ask, at the bottom of the results. And there are several other keywords we get from Keyword Planner and from Ahrefs.
I input these keywords into Google and see what is appearing in the AI Overview, and who the competitors are.
I also search it from the point of view of a patient, somebody who is willing to consult a doctor in MVP Colony specifically. That way we know how many of these pages are getting cited on AI Overviews, and how well. If a person wants a good doctor for dental braces, which doctor should they consult, and which clinic has good facilities? Everything should be shown on the AI Overview itself.
Give every doctor and every branch their own page
Abate Eye Hospital was our client from 2023 until mid-2025. They are a former client now. The keywords we primarily focused on were the ones in Kerala, like Perinthalmanna, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur. There was a page for each branch and a page for each doctor.
This is where those pages were ranking while we were doing their SEO:
| Search | Position | Searches a month | Page that ranked |
|---|---|---|---|
| eye hospital perinthalmanna | #2 | 350 | Perinthalmanna branch page |
| dr faheem | #4 | 150 | His own doctor page |
| eye hospital calicut | #5 | 1,200 | Calicut branch page |
| eye hospital kannur | #5 | 700 | Kannur branch page |
| eye hospital kozhikode | #6 | 350 | Calicut branch page |
| eye hospital malappuram | #6 | 300 | Perinthalmanna branch page |
| eye doctor name | #9 | 1,800 | Doctors listing page |

Patients hear a doctor’s name from someone, and then they search the name. So the doctor needs his own page.
More on Abate is on our digital marketing for doctors page and in the Abate case study.
Redesigning a medical website without losing rankings
Dr Ravi is redesigning his website now. He wanted a new design. There are new team members, and some functions were looking old. So he just wanted a new site and content changes.
During the overhaul, we did everything to make sure the SEO rankings remain intact.
We had already done the old site from our end. The website design, the keywords, everything was researched, and based on that we created a strict site structure. So it was easy to make everything consistent. The older version carried the URLs that were already ranking on Google. We just had to make sure the current version contained the same URLs.
- The design changed. The content and the URL structure did not change.
- There were only two or three redirects.
- We removed certain blogs and redirected them to related blogs, to make sure the cannibalisation issues were sorted.
- Most of the existing content was carried over. Where he wanted to revamp the existing content, we took his guidelines and his assistance, our content writer wrote it properly, it was discussed with him, and then it was updated.
- The content was checked thoroughly to make sure it meets Google’s E-E-A-T expectations. We checked everything before the launch.
- It is hosted on our servers, so everything was in our hands.
Now it is looking exactly like what the doctor wanted.
The four types of SEO for healthcare
| Type | What it covers for a clinic |
|---|---|
| On-page SEO | Service pages, doctor pages, blogs |
| Off-page SEO | Practo, Justdial, directories, Quora, Reddit, forums, YouTube |
| Technical SEO | Site structure, URLs, redirects, speed, schema for the doctor and the team |
| Local SEO | Google Business Profile, reviews, a page for each branch |
Rankings are not permanent
Most of them, they get shown and then they stop. When they did the SEO with us, they were ranking. After that, I don’t check. For our doctors page I went back and checked all of them in Ahrefs, and the full table is on our digital marketing for doctors page.
What SEO for doctors costs, and how long it takes
The pricing depends on the niche and the keyword competition, how much effort has to be put in, whether Google Ads are required, and landing pages. Retainers start at ₹25,000 a month, and basic pricing is on our pricing page.
The timeline depends on the keyword competition. Most of it is multi-location or location-specific keywords, so we know the competition before we start.

How do I get my clinic into Google's AI Overviews?

Will a website redesign affect my rankings?
It can, if the URLs are changed. For Ravi's we made sure the new site contained the same URLs, and there were only two or three redirects.
Do you do SEO for doctors outside Kerala?
Yes. Ravi's is in Visakhapatnam. We have also worked with clients in Dubai and dental practices in Australia.
