We don't own the buildings. We rent capacity from two of Europe's largest infrastructure operators and run the servers, configuration, security, backups and support ourselves. We think that's the honest way to describe a hosting company of our size, and it's how most hosts you've heard of work too; they just don't say so.

Gravelines, France: shared and WordPress hosting

Gravelines is one of Europe's largest data-centre campuses, on the northern French coast between Calais and Dunkirk. Our servers sit in one of several buildings on the site, connected to the campus fibre backbone with multiple transit carriers.

Our cPanel server there runs cPanel/WHM on CloudLinux with LiteSpeed Web Server (Apache-compatible), Imunify360 for malware defence and a web application firewall, and daily backups shipped to an off-server storage box, so a backup never lives in the same building as the site it protects.

Our French site is ISO/IEC 27001 certified and operates under EU GDPR. Power and cooling are N+1 with generator backup.

Our cloud, managed cloud and dedicated locations

We provision cloud, managed cloud and dedicated servers from:

  • Falkenstein, Germanyand Nuremberg, Germany: our main German sites; cloud, managed cloud, dedicated servers and off-server backup storage.
  • Helsinki, Finlandcloud, dedicated and off-server backup storage; typically the lowest-cost location.
  • Singaporecloud and managed cloud only; the location we recommend for India, Southeast Asia and Australia.
  • Ashburn, Virginiaand Hillsboro, Oregon: cloud and managed cloud for the Americas.

German and Finnish facilities are ISO/IEC 27001 certified, GDPR-compliant, and powered substantially by renewable energy. Our backbone there provides multiple 100/400 Gbit/s uplinks per location with DDoS mitigation at the network edge.

Latency from where your customers are

These are typical round-trip figures we've measured; your mileage will vary by ISP.

From To Gravelines (shared/WP) To Germany (cloud/dedicated) To Singapore (cloud)
Kochi / Bengaluru ~140 ms ~130–150 ms ~40–60 ms
Mumbai / Delhi ~120–140 ms ~120–140 ms ~55–70 ms
Dubai / Abu Dhabi ~110–130 ms ~110–125 ms ~90–110 ms
Sydney / Melbourne ~280–300 ms ~270–290 ms ~90–110 ms
Johannesburg / Cape Town ~160–180 ms ~160–175 ms ~230 ms+
London ~10–15 ms ~15–25 ms ~170 ms
Singapore / KL ~180 ms ~170 ms <5 ms
New York ~80 ms ~90 ms ~230 ms

What this means in practice. Latency affects the first request to a page; once LiteSpeed cache is serving and browser caching is working, subsequent requests are fast regardless of distance. For a typical business site the difference between 40 ms and 140 ms is smaller than the difference between an optimised theme and a bloated one, our Dapto Dentist client in Australia cut load times 40–60% without changing servers. For real-time applications, high-frequency APIs or very large stores, choose the Singapore or Germany cloud location closest to your users, and talk to us first.

Cloudflare. We don't bundle it, but Cloudflare's free plan in front of any of our servers puts cached pages on an edge node in Mumbai, Sydney, Dubai or Johannesburg. We'll set it up on request.

What we don't have

Servers in India, the UAE, Australia or South Africa. We'd like to offer them and will add locations when we can do so at the same standard as the ones above. Until then we would rather show you the latency table than a map with flags on it.

Network and protection

  • DDoS mitigation at the network edge in every location, included on every plan
  • IPv4 and IPv6 on every server
  • 1 Gbit/s uplinks on dedicated and cloud; 20 TB monthly traffic included on EU cloud plans
  • Firewall at the network level (cloud) and server level (all plans)
Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is my data in the EU?

Shared, WordPress, backups and EU cloud/dedicated: yes. Singapore and US cloud servers are outside the EU by definition; you choose the location.

Are the data centres certified?

Our Gravelines, Germany and Finland sites hold ISO/IEC 27001. Ask us for the current certificates.

Can I choose the location for shared hosting?

Not yet, shared and WordPress plans are France only. Cloud and managed cloud let you pick.

Do you own the servers?

We rent dedicated and cloud capacity from major European infrastructure operators and manage everything above the hardware.
