Quick Fixes to Turn Your SEO Around

Search Engine Optimization, simply SEO is not as simple as that of the abbreviation. Many things in SEO will take a lot of time and effort to give a fruitful result. But, there are some SEO techniques which are quick and effective. Along with your combined efforts, these tweaks will definitely make a difference in your website in search engine visibility and traffic.

1.Provide Sitemap and update it

The Sitemap is one of the very important points to be included in your website. It conveys search engines about your site structure and all the important pages that should be crawled, indexed, and (ideally) ranked in search results. A clean, frequently updated sitemap also has less obvious benefits.

If you have added sitemap in your website, then go and review it right now to make sure that all the important pages of your site can be found there, including the fresher ones. You can do it by following the below steps:

  1. Log in to your Google Search Console account
  2. Go to Crawl >Sitemap
  • Find Add/Test Sitemap button and click on it
  1. Plug in the URL of your sitemap
  2. Click Test
  3. Click on View test result button

This will reveal if Google encountered any errors when analyzing your sitemap. If the test is successful, congrats! Your sitemap is clean and ready for upload. Otherwise, you can submit your sitemap to Google by hitting the Submit button.

2. Check your Robot.txt

Webmasters create a disallow rule for “/” (all site’s pages, that is), by blocking some of the older parts of the site for fear of content duplication (instead of using a redirect or canonical), and even SEO companies edit the client’s robots.txt file to disallow indexing of all parts of a website after the site’s owner stopped paying them. Like this, when the site’s JavaScript and CSS get blocked from search engine bots, the search engines won’t be able to access and load your CSS; for responsively designed sites. This means they won’t be able to figure out that the website is mobile friendly, and hence rank you lower (if at all) in mobile search.

If you find out some of your important HTML pages are being blocked, you’ll need to go and add an allow rule for those (it will override the disallow rule). If you discover some of your CSS and JavaScript are disallowed, the simplest solution to let Google crawl them and protect your site from similar issues in the future is just 3 lines in your robots.txt file:

User-Agent: Googlebot
Allow: .js
Allow: .css

3.Examine your site for errors

Validate the errors in your website and spot the most important issues quickly. Fix the examined errors. You can do this by Google Search Console tool. This is the best quick SEO checks you can do.

4. Check and enhance page speed

Page Speed is the other factor which affects your website in Google ranking. It has a huge impact on user experience and conversions. It is said that as little as a 1-second delay in page loading time can result in up to 7% reduction in conversions. Hence check and optimize the page speed. If your site has images of large size, the compress them and optimize those image within the optimal load time.

5. Request search engines to re-crawl your site

Whatever changes you have made to your website, Google will notice all of them and hence it is necessary to re-crawl the site to make sure that the changes are taken into account immediately. For this you don’t have to worry, just follow the below steps:

  1. Log in to Google Search Console
  2. Go to Crawl > Fetch as Google
  • Enter the URL of the page you want to be re-crawled (or leave the field blank if you’d like Google to crawl the homepage)
  1. Click Fetch
  2. Click the Submit to index button to encourage Google to re-crawl it.

6. Remove Plagiarised Content

If your website contains any duplicate contents, then it will surely degrade the ranking of your website badly. Hence it is important to give 100% non-plagiarised contents. You can check this by using Plagiarism Checker.

7.Emphasis on Keywords

Always optimize your website with the keywords you have chosen. Optimise the title and description in the HTML pages with the keywords. This will boost your website to get indexed easily and rank high.

8. Find and fix broken links

Your website may contain a number of broken links which can have a negative impact on SEO (404 errors are a big issue). If you find a broken link on your website, either remove it or update it to the current link (or swap it out with an even better, more current one).

Now a days, see a number of tools to identify the broken links. Among these, Google Webmaster Tools is the highly recommended one which can not only identify broken links but also see how your site looks from Google’s perspective.

9.Backlinks support

Providing backlinks to your website is another main thing in Off-Page Optimisation. This is done by creating linkable assets like videos, how-to guides, infographics, and podcasts, you’ll be able to attract backlinks from other sites that want to link to the beautiful contents. Moreover, share the contents on your social platforms, through email, and with your strategic partners to help them spread the word with their networks.

10. Get Inspired by competitors’ content

For this I think, Web monitoring tools, like Google Alerts and Awario, can save you massive amounts of time in discovering those content ideas. The latter has a free trial, and the sign-up takes nothing more than your email address. Go on and sign up, and create an alert for your competitors with their brand names as keywords.

Hope all the above techniques will make you improve your SEO work combined with your long-term SEO efforts (both on-page and off-page). This will really rank your site higher in SERP.
